A Day in the Life
I get asked a lot about what a typical day in the life is like. I wanted to share how I spend my days off when I’m not working.
7.30am: I’ll always be up by this time. My body clock is really strong from always having to wake up super early for work, so 7.30am is a major sleep in for me. The first thing I do is put active wear on. The night before I will leave active wear out next to my bed, this gets me straight into the mindset to train. This is a really good tip if you lack motivation to exercise, the first thing you see is your active wear and it really helps to get yourself into a healthy routine.
8am: I am out the house. I love starting my days off with a 5km walk. I have a coastal track near my house and I love seeing the ocean in the morning and getting fresh air. Also, starting your day with a walk is great for digestion. I always take my 600ml water bottle with me too; it holds me accountable to start the day with a lot of water.
9.30am: I usually walk for over an hour, and when I get home I’m ready for breakfast. At the moment I’m alternating between a breakfast bowl made with 2 eggs, avocado, tomato, spinach and smoked salmon or a protein green smoothie. I really believe a high protein diet is essential, I find that days I don’t eat enough protein I lack energy. Then, in the evenings I find it hard to switch off as I’ve increased my sugar intake to compensate for my low energy during the day. Sugar really impacts my sleep, I will touch more on this in a future blog.
10am: I will work on my blog, answer emails and drink lots of tea until the afternoon. I really enjoy herbal teas such as lemongrass and ginger, and chamomile. I have quit coffee, and will limit myself to one English breakfast tea or a chai a day. Reducing my caffeine intake has changed my life. I have more energy, I feel less anxious throughout the day, and the white in my eyes appear brighter.
12.15pm: I love going to a lunchtime heated Vinyasa class. I go to Power Living in Bondi. Nothing makes me feel more present than a yoga class, I always leave feeling uplifted. I highly recommend starting this practice if you are yet to. I also find it is a great way to break up my screen time, as often I can lose focus if I stare at the computer for too long.
2pm: Finally its lunch time, my favourite meal of the day! I always have a big salad for lunch. I love to eat heaps of veggies, and I always make sure I have a protein source to replenish my muscles and to keep me satisfied. I alternate between tofu, salmon, eggs and tuna. I always include half an avocado or a handful of nuts as a fat to help keep me full. The base of my salad will usually be spinach with quinoa or brown rice. I love to top it off with olive oil, balsamic, salt and pepper. After lunch I will continue working.
5pm: I always tend to get peckish at this time. I love to snack on a high protein snack to tie me over till dinner. I love cutting up a banana and putting peanut butter on each piece. This is so delicious, and a highly recommend if you haven’t tried this before.
7pm: Both Tommy and I follow the same diet. We are both pescatarian, we cut out dairy strictly and cut out gluten most of the time. We love to cook together, our favourite dinners at the moment are zucchini noodles with tuna bolognaise, tofu and fish tacos using both lettuce cups and gluten free tacos, or we make fresh tuna or tofu rice paper rolls. No matter what we make, we load it with heaps of veggies.
9.30pm: After vegging out in front of the TV, we will go to bed. I really value sleep, and love going to bed early. If you are someone who goes to sleep late, I would highly recommend trying to get to sleep fifteen minutes earlier than your usual bed time each night. It takes baby steps to train yourself to get to bed early, and to teach your body that its time for rest.
